EMMETT Technique

What is the EMMETT Technique?

The EMMETT Technique is a unique form of body therapy for both people and animals, involving the application of light finger pressure at specific points. It was created by Ross Emmett and is an Internationally recognised technique taught in over 30 countries worldwide.

It is an amazingly gentle, fast effective non-invasive therapy that is used to ease pain and discomfort , increase movement and improve quality of life. It works equally well on both humans and animals. It is based on the belief that light touch can trigger a relaxation response in the soft tissue of the body and that the therapist may help relieve tensions resulting in feelings of improved comfort within the body.

How does it work?

At present there is no current scientific explanation for the mechanism by which it achieves the relaxation response. However,  a good analogy is that of a digital  touch-screen. It is believed the EMMETT points are small sensory receptors that allow access to the brain via the therapist’s touch. The brain then evaluates this stimulus and initiates the relaxation response to the soft tissue.

It is suitable for people of all ages, from babies to the elderly. Many people find they feel more at ease within the body and emotional well being is enhanced.

It works well as a stand alone therapy but can easily be combined with other complementary therapies. I use it in combination with CranioSacral Therapy.

EMMETT Treatments

Treatment can be carried out, seated, standing or lying down and points can be applied directly to the skin or through clothing.

Animals can be treated where ever they are comfortable eg in a field or at home.

Treatment sessions vary in length depending on how the body responds from 10  to 30 minutes if the technique is used alone.
